Ants are the main attraction and reason for the nature reserve. They belong to the group called “formica rufa” (red ants). They are a protected species because they prey on insects which damage conifers.

The pyramids originated from erosion of this particular morainic terrain by atmospheric agents and from the protection offered by large rocks that function as hats for the columns of earth that from under them due to erosion.

A wet area of international interest in accordance with the convention of Ramsar. The peat bogs are the product of the work of man who at the end of the eighteenth century used the peat (fossil fuel) as energy to power the first factories in the area and subsequently as earth for gardens.

It was included in 1971 in the map of biotopes of Italy. The spring is the only one of its kind because of the presence of fresh water molluscs which only live in the environment of the bowl of the spring, inside a karst cavity.

Inside the Alto Garda bresciano Park, in this nature reserve, a rare example of a lake dammed by a moraine linked to the state of the rains. Rare species flower alongside the stream.
